The White Oaks Horticultural Society was formed with an initial membership of 140 people on January 10, 1957 at Brantwood Public School. Beginning February 11 of the same year, the Society held it's first meeting in Knox Presbyterian Church in downtown Oakville.
In January 1962, the Society changed it's name to the Oakville Horticultural Society and in 1989, the logo was added to the community service clubs’ signboard on Dorval Drive. To commemorate the Society's 25 year anniversary in June 1982, we honoured our surviving charter members.
Over the years, our Society has made many donations of plant material and trees to improve various areas of our town and is currently involved with the planting and maintenance of the parkette at the corner of Forsythe and Rebecca Streets, and at Ian Anderson House (a cancer hospice) on Winston Churchill Blvd. Our Society also has donated many bulbs for the grounds at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and designed and constructed the rooftop garden there. The Society maintains a scrapbook of interesting pictures and information on our history.
